Dr. Dimitri Argyriades

Board Member

Dr. Dimitri Argyriades is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Sorbonne. He started his career in Britain and Greece and, in 1967, joined the ranks of the international public service, working first for the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and then the United Nations Secretariat. In the past 30 years, he has served as a consultant to the E.U. (PHARE & TACIS), the Bank of Greece, the Government of South Africa, UNDESA, the UNDP and other international organizations on human resources development, public service reform, ethics and democratic governance.

From 1975, he taught for several years, consecutively, at New York University and the International Training Centre of the I.L.O. in Turin, as well as other colleges and universities in the USA and abroad. He is still currently teaching public administration systems, methods and techniques at John Jay College, CUNY. He has published very widely, in four languages and has served as Rapporteur of four successive Working Groups of the IIAS on Global Governance, as well as Rapporteur-Général of the XXVth International Congress of the IIAS, in 2001. He was President of the Greek Management Association (DEE, Athens, 2009-2012) and since 2012 has been elected Member of the Governing Board of the Association of Former International Civil Servants (AFICS/NY). He is the Secretary since 2018.

His recent most activities include participation in two international conferences, both in Korea. The earlier, in September 2017, focused on State Fragility as an overarching challenge for Sustainable Development and democratic governance. The later, in September 2018, explored challenges facing public service pension schemes and public service careers. D. Argyriades presented conference papers on both occasions. The first was a joint paper with Dr. Pan Suk Kim. He is Doctor honoris causa of the University of Athens and recipient of the ASPA F.W. Riggs Award.
